Mr. Harold Ridley
The Ridley Intraocular Lens (IOL) was the first ever implant used in humans. Sir Harold Ridley (10th July 1906 – 25th May 2001) pioneered intraocular lens surgery for cataract patients working in London in the 1950s. He was subsequently knighted for his achievements.
